3. Resin BondResin BondAppropriate for materials and/or application that can benefit from the self-dressing properties exhibited by these very free cutting abrasive blades. As a bonding system for abrasives, this system encompasses two main groups; these are Thermosetting and Thermoplastic. Thermosetting Resin is two-phase; this meaning its solid (phase #1) then softens and hardens (Cures) under heat (phase #2). Thermosetting resins used for bonding are usually Phenol resins and are generally stiff, brittle and “self Dressing” (free-cutting) this group of resins are widely used for numerous applications. Thermoplastic Resin is three-phase; this meaning its solid (phase #1) then softens with heat (phase #2) and then hardens when cooled (phase #3). Thermoplastic resins used for bonding are typically (though not limited too) polyimide resins, these are generally tough and somewhat elastic.
